Inspiring the Next Generation: Sharing the Joys of Tech at Westfield Academy
On 3rd July, I had the incredible opportunity to visit Westfield Academy in Watford as a representative of Fivium. My aim was to enlighten and inspire the minds of students about the exciting career prospects available in the ever-evolving world of technology. It was a fulfilling experience that allowed me to share my passion for tech and, hopefully, guide these individuals in making informed decisions about their future studies and careers.
Speaking to Year 12 students, who were at a crucial stage in their lives, contemplating their next steps after completing their A-levels, I aimed to provide them with valuable insights into the various opportunities within the technology industry.
It was encouraging to see the students' enthusiasm. They asked insightful questions, demonstrating their eagerness to understand the industry and the potential pathways they could pursue. Witnessing their genuine interest was truly encouraging and reinforced my belief in the power of sharing knowledge with the younger generation. What was particularly inspiring to see was the number of female students who took an active interest in how they could pursue a career in tech - hopefully a positive sign of things to come in addressing the gender imbalance in the industry.
In addition to engaging with Year 12 students, I had the pleasure of interacting with the Year 9 cohort. For these students, the visit was an opportunity to gain clarity on the subjects they should study at the GCSE level to lay a strong foundation for a career in technology.
Sharing my experiences and knowledge with the students at Westfield Academy was a privilege, and I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their personal and professional growth.
By exposing them to the possibilities within the tech industry, I hope to have kindled a passion for technology and provided them with some of the knowledge needed to forge their own paths. And who knows, we may see some of the students on our Student Placement Scheme in the near future!
